Surfski Surfski Surfski

Phew, I can’t believe it’s been 2 months since my last update! This time it’s going much better. I joined the Century City Canoe Club and started doing their weekly timetrials(TT) and every week I’m cutting my time down. I still finish last but at my previous TT I managed 65m44 So I’m heading in the right direction.

My aim has been to paddle 4 times a week and so far it’s been going good. I’ve found myself opting for the canals instead of tackling the sea but now that the weather is heating up I will definitely be in the sea more often.

The downwind dash is starting soon and I’m very excited because the whole reason I got into surfski is for downwind paddling. I also really like the idea of the downwind dash because the slower paddlers get a headstart so I’ll at least be in the action.

One obvious realisation is that I need to go for a lesson or two at somestage because my technique is shocking. I never realised how technical paddling was until now. I also need to sort out my roofrack sitation as currently I have no way to transport my ski. If you remember I won roofracks a while ago but they don’t fit my car (without some customisation), even though I was assured they would.

I’m glad I finally took the plunge and got a surfski because I’m enjoying it so much! If you’re thinking about starting, surfski.info and Dawid Mockes surfskischool are a good place to start. See you on the water

Great to see the surfski passion building! I’ve felt much the same way on my own recent foray into the surfski world – having way too much fun now! Cheers and happy paddles, FP

Thanks! I’m shocked I never got into surfski earlier. There’s something so awesome about it that you just can’t explain to someone who’s never tried it.
